Someone Could’ve warned Me

Week 9: I’m Sexy and I Know It (Part 2)

I am blessed with “beautiful”, blemish free skin, Nah just playing, but seriously other than a couple of break outs in High School and the stray pimple every now and again, I have had it very easy. Suddenly this last week, like a plague, my face was taken over by an onslaught of acne. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t totally panicked by this. Down on my hands and knees you could find me rummaging through Naomi’s bathroom items in-search of a miracle cream to rid me of these pains in the ass. “Crap!!!” there was nothing.

Next step was a Google search for some homemade zit remedies. Did you know that people actually smash-up aspirin, mix it with honey, and spread it all over their face? I didn’t go that far but I did end up with some sort of white concoction slathered all over my mug. As I stood their staring at myself in the mirror I could only think of how the evolution of men has drastically changed.

Pick up any fitness magazine and you will find a multitude of products designed to make men look better. What used to be a half an isle for guys in Target, when I was in High School, is now a huge full lane of lotions, after shaves, and skin care products. So what does this tell me? It tells me that contrary to what us guys tell you; we absolutely care what we look like.

It comes at different times for every guy, but at some point the majority of us realize we have to try harder than just getting out of bed to impress a quality girl. My dad taught my brother and I at an early age how to iron our clothes, and how to put our shoes on before our slacks so not to wrinkle them. Hilariously we all have a good friend, who was a total slob that begins to start taking interest in hair gels and collard shirts because he has a girl taking interest in him. O’ the things we do to try to impress pretty girls.

Now once we get into the relationship and somehow convince one of these girls to marry us our foot comes off the gas pedal. I may be in the minority, but I think I am in the majority in regards to post relationship weight gain. We spend our time eating out, going out for drinks, and spending the time we used to use for working out with our significant other. So last week I called on the men to get after it for their women, and this week I’m going to give you girls some homework to help us out.

Diet:
It is very tough to sit across from you eating a salad as you enjoy that pasta dish. Be mindful of our diet and plan more dates around being healthy. Find some healthier restaurants, or cook dinner at home before we head out to the movie.
*Also hit the cookbooks and find ways to make healthy versions of our favorite meals

Exercise:
We love to hit the gym, but most of us love sports. If we ask for time to go play golf or shoot baskets with our boys, allow it. Getting out and being active in any fashion is a good thing.
* Letting us get out with our boys does wonders for our attitudes

Communication:
Everything we do is basically for your approval. If you encourage us to hit the gym we will, if you tell us we look good we push harder. Your words are key to help us keep striving. Do your best to keep the conversation positive and moving forward.
*This is a good rule for every part of your relationship.

Love:
The saying goes, “behind every good man is a great women”. Have your mans back in every aspect of his life. Support his goals in fitness, business, and life. We will be the man you see in us.

Till next week ya’ll! GOOD LUCK!

“Someone Could’ve Warned Me” WARNING: Ladies, ladies, ladies I said I was coming after you… As shallow guys, we love for you to look cute. If you want compliments and more cuddle time, get out of our old t-shirts and the sweats you had from high school. Victoria secret has sales all the time; I am sure your guy wont mind you spending his money for a good cause. Consider yourselves warned!

Fitness Update

This week has been a really good week. I have been fortunate enough to work a few days in the studio with my brother on his project. As it is for most people, getting the opportunity to do the things they love will fix any of the frustrations in your life.

Right now the only frustrations I have are coming physically. I haven’t been able to do much other than walking and stretching in regards to my fitness. Anything more than that and my leg pains become intense, and lying on the couch is all I can do. This poses a pretty large problem when you’re trying to get your butt in shape.

With every good challenge though you have to dig deep into the areas you can control, and for me that’s my diet. I had a great talk last night with my brother Zac about emotional eating. Fat Bastard, the character from the Austin Powers movies had it right when he said, “I am unhappy because I eat, and I eat because I am unhappy”.

With the frustrations of not being able to workout, more than ever I have a need/want to find new ways to bring great quality food into my life. I need quality food, because my diet is going to be my only chance at weight loss in my current condition. And I want to do this because I have a baby boy I love to chase around.

The other day my wife and I decided to only buy organic meats for our family. We decided that if for nothing else, the peace of mind was worth it. Just grabbing a bag of chicken in Whole foods will be enough to make you breathe a little easier. Right on the front it states, this chicken contains no antibiotics, steroids, and artificial flavorings. “NO ANTIBIOTICS”, good hell what have we been doing to ourselves.

I would encourage you this week to slowly make some changes to how you purchase your families groceries. Where can you start and make small steps to over hall your food. Lets get back to the basics and start buying local. I promise you your food will be cleaner, fresher, and far better tasting. Lastly, pose yourself two questions this week. Why do you want this? And, why do you need this? Write down and carry your answers as motivation for your week ahead. Have a great week everyone, and keep up the good fight.

Paleo Meatloaf
Paleodietlifestyle.com

Ingredients
2 lb ground beef (you may substitute with ground pork);
1 ½ tsp sea salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 egg;
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cups white button mushrooms, finely chopped
1 tsp chili pepper flakes
3 tsp fresh thyme, minced
1 tsp fresh oregano, minced
3 cloves garlic, minced
½ cup homemade ketchup
1 tbsp honey, optional
½ tbsp Worcestershire sauce, optional
1 tbsp paleo cooking fat

Preparation

1. Preheat your oven to 350 F.
2. In a medium-sized skillet placed over a medium heat, melt the cooking fat, add the mushrooms and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes, or until soft.
3. In a large bowl, combine the meat, salt, pepper, egg, onion, mushrooms, chili pepper, thyme, oregano and garlic. Mix well, making sure to break-up the meat. Add the cooked mushrooms as well. It’s very important that the mushrooms are evenly distributed to ensure the loaf bonds well.
4. Lightly grease loaf pan with additional cooking fat and fill it with the meat mixture. Place in the oven and cook for approximately 15 minutes.
5. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine ketchup, honey and Worcestershire sauce to make the sauce for the top of the meatloaf.
6. After cooking for 15 minutes, gently spread the sauce on the top of the loaf. Continue cooking for another 40 minutes.

Cheers,
Tyler
