Does weight loss require restriction?
Not a popular take because people are afraid to say it. Weight loss involves restriction.
But maybe not in the way you think.
Restriction is a scary word for a lot of people. But I think it’s ok to acknowledge that if weight loss is a goal of yours it involves some sort of restriction.
I do consultations with people that want to lose weight.
One of their biggest concerns is if working with me will be another program that “doesn’t work for them.”
They want to know…
“Will this program work for me?”
Every program that works for weight loss does the same thing.
It helps you create a moderate calorie deficit over time.
It will not work for weight loss if it does not help you do that.
For example:
Weight Watchers has you track points. which is a simplified version of calorie tracking.
If it helps you achieve a calorie deficit you will lose weight. If it doesn’t you will not.
The Keto diet removes carbs from your diet. Carbs (like protein and fat) contain calories.
If you remove carbs/calories from your diet, don’t replace them, and this puts you in a calorie deficit you will lose weight. If it doesn’t you will not.
Weight loss involves restriction. You have to restrict calories to lose weight.
There are a ton of ways to go about it.
The key is choosing the least restricting method for you and one that doesn’t drive you bat shit cray cray.
